New York, NY—The Rokinon 85mm F1.4 E AF II is the second edition of the AF 85mm f/1.4 E lens, now for full-frame, mirrorless E-mount cameras.

The new large-aperture standard lens delivers a 28.9º angle of view for full-frame and 19.1º for APS-C cameras. It also provides a bright maximum aperture of f/1.4

“The AF 85mm f/1.4 E II is the only Emount lens that does not feature even a single aspherical glass. If an aspherical glass is used to improve its optical performance, there should be onion rings in the bokeh, which is a negative factor in the bokeh evaluation. Since the AF 85mm F1.4 E II does not feature any aspherical glass in its elements, it has clear and beautiful bokeh!” the company announced.

With 11 elements in 8 groups, the lens employs one ED (extra-low dispersion) and four HR (high refractive) glass elements to provide contrast and resolution. Moreover, Rokinon states “its center resolution is superior to other comparable expensive telephoto lenses.”

Rokinon’s coating technology not only maintains image sharpness even in poor lighting conditions, but it also provides a clearer image with an improved Color Contribution Index (CCI).

In addition, a linear stepping motor (STM) achieves the high-thrust efficiency needed for fast, precise, quiet AF and tracking. As a result, it maximizes the advantages of Sony E-mount cameras.

Furthermore, compared to the previous AF 85mm f/1.4 E, the new AF 85mm f/1.4 E II is optimized for both photo shooting and video recording by minimizing vibration and noise. Tracking the subject accurately and quickly, the AF also operates quietly and smoothly when shooting video.

For video applications, the lens offers minimized focus breathing; there is almost no change in the angle of view when focusing and therefore less screen shake. This is effective when shooting movies with the subject moving forward or backward; or when focusing from the front or back.

Other features include a customizable focus hold button and a custom switch. Pressing the focus hold button on the lens will keep the lens locked to that focusing distance. Users can also assign functions such as eye AF in settings on the camera body.

What’s more, photographers can set the custom switch to allow adjustment of the aperture silently, by rotating the focus ring. Also, via the optional Lens Station, they can set up the mode to suit their preferences. In addition, Rokinon will add more functions through firmware updates in the future.

More Features

The lens also features a rubberized micro-patterned focus ring, a silver ring, a hidden red ring and a matte finish. Consequently, the lens is comfortable to operate, and weather-sealing in seven areas protects it from light rain, snow and dust.

Its minimum focal distance is 2.79 feet, making the lens a solution for portraits, headshots and full-body images. It is also possible to produce unique perspective close to the subject and to take portraits with exaggerated features or food on tables.

Plus, the lens uses a large-diameter aperture to provide smooth background blur. It effectively separates the subject from the background, using a shallow depth of field. In addition, its 9 diaphragm blades create smooth, natural bokeh with light splitting.

The Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 AF II in the Sony E mount measures 3.92 inches in length. Moreover, it weighs in at 17.95 ounces. The lens has a suggested retail price of $799.
