New York, NY—The Rokinon AF 35mm F1.8 FE full–frame compact, wide–angle lens in the Sony E mount was introduced. It is the company’s tenth autofocus lens for Sony mirrorless cameras.
The lens weighs 7.4 ounces and measures 2.5 inches in length. The new 35mm prime lens strikes a balance between speed and portability. In addition, Rokinon says it “is the lightest and smallest AF full–frame 35mm f/1.8 Sony E–mount lens currently in the market.”

The AF 35mm lens features a rugged build as well as an advanced optical design. It incorporates four special elements (two aspherical and two high refractive index). It also employs proprietary Ultra Multi-Coating to achieve high–resolution image quality from the center to the edges of the frame, even at f/1.8 full aperture.
The lens is also a capable performer as a standard/normal focal length lens; it is equivalent to 52.5mm when used on Sony E–mount APS-C sensor models.
“Designed for exceptional sharpness at maximum f/1.8 aperture, this lens excels at available light photography and at creating content with a shallow depth of field,” Rokinon announced.
In addition, thanks to its 9-blade circular aperture, it produces pleasing bokeh effects that exhibit natural, circular, out-of-focus highlights.
Moreover, the lens’s AF motor system uses a stepping motor (STM) that is optimized for both phase–detection AF and contrast-detection AF. It provides a smooth shooting experience, while an internal focus design allows for quick, precise autofocus with silent focusing while recording video.
Another notable feature is weather sealing that helps protect the lens against dust and moisture. What’s more, a custom switch permits the focusing ring to function either as a manual focus control (mode 1) or as an aperture control (mode 2).
Firmware Updates
Rokinon is also making additional custom switch functions available via firmware updates. Furthermore, fine–tuning focusing parameters and other updates for the AF 35mm f/1.8 and other AF Rokinon Sony E–mount lenses are obtained by using a Rokinon Lens Station.
The Rokinon AF 35mm f/1.8 FE full-frame lens for Sony E-mount cameras is now available. It retails for $499, including a reversible lens hood, lens caps and a custom case.
