Commack, NY—Tamron is developing the Tamron 17-50mm F4 Di III VXD (model A068) wide-angle zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras. Moreover, Tamron expects to release the lens this fall.

“This groundbreaking lens zooms from 17mm ultrawide-angle to 50mm standard is the world’s first with such a dynamic zoom range for full-frame mirrorless cameras (as of July 2023),” Tamron announced. “This lens achieves excellent optical performance across the entire zoom range, with crispness from edge-to-edge.”

The new 17–50mm f/4 lens in the E mount has a constant f/4 aperture and covers ultrawide-angle to standard focal lengths. It’s billed as a zoom range ideal for both still photography and video recording.

In addition, the lens incorporates a VXD (voice-coil eXtreme-torque drive) linear motor focus mechanism that achieves quiet, agile performance. It also provides high-speed, high-precision autofocus.

Furthermore, with internal zooming, the physical length of the lens does not change while zooming. What’s more, its construction makes the lens easy to balance even when fitted to a gimbal stabilizer or other equipment.

Additionally, the lens offers close-range shooting performance with an MOD (minimum object distance) of 7.5 inches at the wide end and 11.8 inches at the tele end. The “walk around” lens, offers portability and convenience, since it can shoot a variety of content, both still images and video, from sweeping landscapes to snapshots.

Further, the new lens is compatible with Tamron Lens Utility software. Other features include a 67mm filter size, the same as most other Tamron lenses for mirrorless; moisture-resistant construction; and a fluorine coating to repel dust and fingerprints.

Tamron will release additional specs and pricing closer to the lens’s launch.
