Portland, OR—ON1, creators of ON1 Photo RAW as well as professional photo-editing plug-ins for photographers, announced a new application for image noise removal. ON1 NoNoise AI will intelligently and quickly remove image noise. It does so by leveraging ON1’s AI-based machine learning to remove luminance and color noise. It will also maintain the ultimate amount of details in photos, according to ON1.

“This product was in development for quite a while. We constantly trained the AI models, reviewing results and comparing those results with other noise removal products out there today. It was no easy task. We knew there was a high bar to clear to say this is the fastest and best product for removing image noise while giving photographers the best results,” said Dan Harlacher, vice president, Product. Moreover, fast live previews will give photographers the speed and results they need using straightforward controls. Tools include an auto mode that takes user-guided preferences into account. It will also fully integrate into existing workflows by supporting common photo editors and file formats. In addition, it will save DNG RAW files that maintain the whole tonal and color range.

ON1 NoNoise AI works as a stand-alone app and a plug-in.

ON1 will offer ON1 NoNoise AI as both a stand-alone application and a plug-in for Adobe Lightroom Classic and Photoshop; Affinity Photo; Corel Paintshop Pro; Apple Photos; as well as Capture One.

“Last fall, Portrait AI was the team’s first AI-based product release, which was a huge success. . . . The team realizes the potential benefits of implementing AI methodologies in photo-editing applications. When AI is done right, it is a beneficial technology for the photographer. AI can greatly simplify the editing process for the photographer while creating amazing images,” added Craig Keudell, president of ON1.

ON1 NoNoise AI Key Features

The new software provides AI-based noise reduction by leveraging machine learning. It builds an AI network to remove luminance and color noise while maintaining the details. In addition, the company says results are viewable in a fraction of the time it takes other apps to produce viewable results. There are also far fewer controls to adjust without the limitation of sacrificing sharpness to reduce image noise.

Moreover, for RAW photos, a lot of image noise comes in the demosaicing process that converts it into a standard photo. Combining this step with the noise reduction during the AI training in ON1 NoNoise AI will achieve better noise reduction and help increase detail and sharpness.

In addition, it opens RAW photos from more than 700 cameras, including common file types like DNG, JPG, TIF, PNG, etc. When it comes to saving results, it creates industry standard DNG RAW files with the tonal as well as color range for use in most editors.

Furthermore, ON1 NoNoise AI has the ability to combine multiple renditions of a photo along with multiple photos as layers. This will allow photographers to use built-in masking tools to blend and combine at different levels of noise reduction and sharpening on different areas of the photo.

Also, an auto button will analyze the photo and determine the correct amount of noise reduction using ON1’s AI models. User preferences will also guide auto for noise reduction; for example, if users want to maintain some grain in the photo or not.

The program also uses ON1’s progressive sharpening algorithm to enhance the sharpness and details based on the size of the details in the photo, without the halos and artifacts that other sharpening techniques can create.

The new noise-reduction application also allows users to create their own presets to define a NoNoise style. However, it comes with presets to get started. In addition, users can batch process an entire folder of photos. For each photo, it can add the correct amount of noise reduction and sharpening. Or photographers can open a series of photos and adjust each photo to the desired settings. They can also copy and paste settings from one photo to another.

The official release of ON1 NoNoise AI is late June. ON1 will also release pricing when preorders begin in late May. Owners of ON1 Photo RAW 2021 or other 2021 ON1 apps and plug-ins will receive special discounted pricing once preorders begin.
